The Case of the Singing Sandwich
In the busy town of Noodleburg lived a little raccoon named Ricky.
Ricky worked at his family’s sandwich shop.
One morning, he was preparing lunch when he heard something strange.
“Hmmmmmmmm…”
Ricky stopped.
“What was that?”
He looked around.
Nothing.
Then he heard it again.
“HMMMMMMMM!”
The sound came from the refrigerator.
Ricky opened the door.
Inside was a sandwich.
The sandwich had two pieces of bread, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle.
And it was singing.
“LA LA LA!”
Ricky screamed.
The sandwich screamed too.
“AAAAAH!”
Ricky ran outside.
His sister Ruby followed.
“What happened?”
“THE SANDWICH IS SINGING!”
Ruby looked inside.
The sandwich began singing again.
“LA LA LA!”
Ruby’s eyes became huge.
“We need a detective.”
They called Professor Pickles, the town’s famous detective.
Professor Pickles arrived wearing a giant magnifying glass around his neck.
He examined the sandwich.
“Very suspicious.”
He sniffed it.
He tapped it.
He even asked it questions.
“Where were you last night?”
The sandwich sang:
“LA LA LA!”
Professor Pickles wrote something down.
“It refuses to cooperate.”
Soon, the whole town heard about the singing sandwich.
People came from everywhere.
Some wanted to hear it.
Some wanted to buy it.
One man offered fifty coins.
Another offered one hundred.
But Ricky refused.
“It’s part of our family sandwich shop.”
Then the sandwich suddenly started singing louder.
“LA LA LA LA LA!”
It jumped off the plate.
“WAIT!”
Everyone chased it.
The sandwich ran through the shop.
Across the kitchen.
Out the back door.
Down the street.
It jumped onto a bicycle.
The bicycle rolled downhill.
The sandwich shouted:
“LA LA LA!”
Ricky chased after it.
Professor Pickles chased Ricky.
Ruby chased Professor Pickles.
Soon half the town was running behind them.
The bicycle finally crashed into a pile of hay.
The sandwich landed safely on top.
Ricky climbed up.
“Why are you running away?”
The sandwich stopped singing.
Then something unexpected happened.
A tiny voice came from behind the hay.
“I made it.”
Everyone looked.
A little mouse crawled out.
It was wearing a tiny chef’s hat.
“You made the sandwich?”
The mouse nodded.
“I’m practicing magic cooking.”
Professor Pickles gasped.
“Magic cooking?”
The mouse explained that he had accidentally used a magical herb.
It made the sandwich sing whenever someone smelled it.
Ricky laughed.
“So you’re the sandwich magician!”
The mouse smiled.
“Can I have my sandwich back?”
Ricky handed it over.
The mouse took one bite.
The sandwich immediately stopped singing.
Everyone stared.
Then the mouse smiled.
“It only sings when it’s hungry.”
Ricky laughed.
From that day forward, the little mouse became the sandwich shop’s newest chef.
And every Friday, the shop served its famous Singing Sandwich.
Customers would take one bite and hear:
“LA LA LA!”
The sandwich became so popular that people traveled from distant towns to try it.
Ricky always remembered the day it ran away.
Whenever someone asked him how the sandwich became famous, he would smile and say:
“Honestly, it started by causing a little trouble.”
The End
Sometimes unexpected problems can lead to wonderful new opportunities.
